“The Edge”
beyond THE KNOWN multiverse
The Edge, first introduced in the Magic set “Edge of Eternities”, is Magic the Gathering’s take on the Science Fiction genre. Unlike other sets, which take place on planes, The Edge is a space beyond the wall of the multiverse and blind eternities, and abides by wholly different rules. If the multiverse is an orange, the metaphor goes, The Edge is the rind, or skin, around the outside. This makes the physical space it occupies utterly massive, and wholly un-separated unlike the mutlvierse we know. Within the Edge are spaceships, alien species, and countless worlds that evolved using science instead of magic.
The Edge has two “walls” that exist as the border of the space it occupies: the “Chaos Wall” and the “Quiet Wall.” The Chaos Wall is an edge that borders the known multiverse, and where the planeswalker Tezzeret was able to enter from. In contrast, the Quiet Wall is the exterior of the Edge: true nothingness, and utterly impassable.
The only system known so far in The Edge so far is the Sothera system, although innumerable others have been alluded to. It consists of five planets orbiting a collapsed star named Sothera that is now a Supervoid. The five planets are:
Susur Secundi - Formerly known as Anuki, this planet is in the process of being devoured by the supermassive black hole that Sothera became. It is covered in ancient ruins from a long-dead civilization, and now occupied by the Monoist cult that worship Sothera.
Kavaron - Homeworld of the industrius Kav, Kavaron is now in the process of full collapse due to the strip-mining of its core. Half of it is already gone. The other half is kept in stasis as the population flees: but “Kavaron-That-Was” can only remain for so long.
Evendo - A planet with frozen poles and a lush, verdant equator, it has only begun to be colonized by a subspecies of the insect-folk the Eumidians.
Adagia - Once known as Adawa, this is a sand-covered planet that has been colonized by the Sunstar Company, an arm of the interstellar force known as the Celestial Palatinate.
Uthros - The furthest planet from Sothera, this is a gas giant and blanketed in violent storms. Similar to the real-life planet Jupiter, it is a verifiable layer-cake of hostile chemical and physical phenomena, and home to the scientific and secretive Illvoi.
Their origins beyond just being from The Edge are currently unknown, but another faction at home in this space is that of The Guidelight Voyagers. Brought to us as part of the set Aetherdrift, they are a cute little robot hive-mind and planar nomads who were torn from their home and dumped on Avishkar by an anomalous Omenpath.

Iconic & Unique Planar Elements
This section is designed to help identify other planar cards in the future, and to help showcase the unique visual and stylistic identiy of the plane.
Science Fiction Genre Trappings - The Edge is Magic’s take on the genre of science fiction. This informs the large majority of its unique elements, including technology, narrative, scale, and environment. For example, the Edge contains a multitude of Solar Systems, while any one plane contains, on average, one planet (or planet-like structure) and occasionally a moon or a sun.
Astelli - Although not “angels” in the classic sense, the Astelli are the living remnants of stars, and appear similar to angels made of stardust. These beings are unique to cosmology of The Edge.
Cosmic Fauna - Creatures like space whales are unique to The Edge as far as we’ve seen, for the most part because The Edge is the only location in the multiverse with a large amounf of “space” that doesn’t immediately become The Blind Eternities.
Drix - A creature type only found in The Edge, the Drix are the oldest species living within it and the only ones capable of faster-than-light travel via “weftwalking.”
Illvoi - A species of humanoid jellyfish-like beings unique to The Edge. They use small emoji-like robots to communicate with other species, and use “cloudsculpting.”
Kav - The first use of the creature type ‘Kavu’ off of Dominaria is for a new, but clearly “related” species of burly humanoids known as The Kav. They are native to the planet Kavaron, and have a penchant for mining and drilling, similar to Dwarves on some planes.
“Multiverse Echos” - The cosmology of The Edge makes it a unique place that generates seeming “echoes” of things from the multiverse it surrounds. These are unrelated by any measurable means to the things within multiversal space, but somehow undeniably linked conceptually.
Robots - Outside of Universes Beyond, The Edge is the only location that uses the ‘Robot’ creature type. These are differentiated from Constructs and Golems due to their technological nature and either semi-intelligent or fully artificial intelligence, unlike the magical constructs found within Magic’s usual planes.
Spacecraft - A unique card type created for Edge of Eternities that represent the large spaceships seen across the Edge that allow beings to navigate between solar systems.
Warp - A new mechanic created for Edge of Eternities, warp allows a player to temporarily cast a creature for a single turn before exiling it and casting it again later.
